When should I start planning for college?
Ideally, students should start planning for college right
before they begin 9th grade, ensuring a comprehensive plan
in high school courses and impacting extracurricular activities.
The earlier the planning, the more opportunities students
will have to increase their competitive edge in college admissions.
However, many students hire College Confidence during their
junior and senior years in high school. We welcome all students
– freshman and transfer – who desire the help,
and have the motivation to do their part in applying to colleges.
College confidence offers intensive 1-day workshops,
as well as a comprehensive checklist
created for your needs whether you are a freshman, senior
or transfer student.
What are the steps in planning for
college?
There are eight steps to ensure that your college admission
applications are complete and competitive. In addition to
meeting admissions and application requirements it is very
important that students keep track of the various requirements
and deadlines for orientation, financial aid, and housing.
Take advantage of the comprehensive checklist
and contact us for further information on our workshops
and the College Admissions Planner.
What is the general college checklist
for a high school student?
Our checklist is designed to
give students an overview of their role in the college planning
process beginning 9th through 12th grade. For more detailed
information about college planning, you can attend one of
our workshops or order a College
Admissions Planner that will help you organize and develop
your college planning process.
What will the college admissions workshops
cover?
This intensive college admissions workshop is designed to
help high school juniors and seniors create a plan of action
towards their application process. Students will leave the
workshop with a personalized list of colleges that match their
profiles, an understanding of the academic and application
requirements for each college, a timeline that specifies application
and financial aid deadlines for each college, a written first
draft of a college personal statement, a draft of their academic
resume, and more!
When and where will the college admissions workshops be held?
Workshops are held once a month between the months of September
and December. Check our schedule
to find out when we will be in your area!
How do I go about getting a workshop in my area?

What entrance exams do I have to take
for college admissions?
There are three main college entrance exams that most (not
all) colleges require for admissions: SAT I, SAT Subject Tests,
and ACT. These tests evaluate how prepared a high school student
is for the college course load, and contains questions reviewing
advance mathematics, reading comprehensive, vocabulary, science,
and writing skills. Most colleges will accept the best score
between the SAT I and ACT, which is why students take both
tests. Other colleges will require both the SAT I and 2-3
different SAT Subject tests. Yet, other colleges will give
an option to take either the SAT I and SAT Subject Tests or
simply the ACT. Explaining the requirements of college entrance
tests is almost a science within itself. College Confidence
clarifies the test requirements for each college a student
applies to. Rather than having the student and parent investigate
the confusion of which test belongs to which college, College
Confidence creates a clear cut individualized test checklist
to ensure the student takes the right test at the right time.

What does an independent college counselor
do?
Independent college counselors work personally with students
and their families on understanding the entire college admissions
process. They give customized one-to-one personalized consultation
that meets the unique circumstances of each student.
What areas does College Confidence
currently cover?
College Confidence primarily serves Ventura. We are located
in Westlake Village close to Oxnard, Thousand Oaks, Ventura
County, Agoura, Calabasas, Camarillo, Conejo, Newbury Park,
Simi, Moorpark, Oak Park, Woodland Hills, and the San Fernando
Valley.
Why should I hire an independent counselor?
Within the last decade, there has been a significant increase
in highly qualified students applying to colleges that have
limited spaces. Last year, many academically competitive students
were denied from the colleges and universities of their choice.
Aside from increasing GPA and test score averages, there are
other factors that explain why students are being accepted
from top colleges and universities. College Confidence not
only ensures that every application is submitted complete
but also represents the true merits and leadership potential
of each student.
What do the fees cover?
When students work with College Confidence, we develop a comprehensive
and individualized action plan for their college admission
process. Services can include a full assessment reviewing
academic and personal history, building a detailed college
list, developing a timeline outlining application deadlines
and requirements, suggesting ways to strengthen college essays,
giving one-to-one application support, and much more! For
students pursuing visual or performing art degrees, College
Confidence has two advisors to help students with their portfolios
and/or auditions. Please contact us for details about our fees and services.

Does College Confidence review college
essays?
Writing the college essay is a crucial part of the college
admissions process, which is why College Confidence spends
the majority of time working on the essay with the student.
Since most college interviews are optional, the college essay
serves as the substitute. It is a way to present the uniqueness
in character, personality and experiences to college admission
officers. Our goal is for students to feel confident that
they are submitting an essay that portrays their true merits
and character.
Does College Confidence help with the
financial aid process?
College Confidence will explain the process of financial aid
including the role of the Free Application for Federal Student
Aid (FAFSA) form, college scholarship forms and private scholarship

We have carefully selected talented individuals who
specialize within their professional practice, as well as
