"Your knowledge coupled
with your positive energy and dedication were
very inspiring. My daughter seemed to change her lethargic
attitude to
one of motivation. 'I really want to go to college now.' It
is my hope
that she can continue to stay motivated. You were wonderful
knowing
just how to help a student re-connect with their own desires
and
drives. My daughter thought you were a very gifted person,
and told me
she was so glad to have connected with you."

The
Visual Arts Advisor – Claudine Jaenichen
Claudine
Jaenichen achieved her BFA in graphic design from the
California Institute of the Arts. She has 10 years of
professional experience as an independent freelancer
and as senior designer for several design studios in
southern California. With her experience, Claudine will
help students understand their options
in visual arts as well as advise them in their portfolio
development.
She obtained her graduate degree in information design
at the University of Reading, England gaining teaching
experience in graphic design, typography, design methodology
and theory. She returned to California to teach for
campuses such as Cal State Northridge and the Fashion
Institute Design and Merchandising (FIDM). She is now
a tenure track professor at Chapman University and maintains
her professional practice as a freelancer.
Her philosophy on teaching is: “As a professional
graphic and information designer I embrace the role
of responsibility, legibility and usability in visual
displays within our diverse cultural environment. There
is a constant call to action sparking inspiration for
new generations of designers, educators and students
to take accountability for our work. I believe in challenging
design that defines cultural understanding and sensitivity
to inclusive design. Designers are the professional
element that can merge form and function in a world
bombarded with information and visual floods.”
